While many spend a lifetime struggling to define their identity, he learned that his was tucked away in his most challenging times. As an agent of change, pastor, community leader and humanitarian, Des A. Pennington is best known for his unique perspective on life delivered through poetry, storytelling, preaching and speaking. Understanding that our personal tests are both for our growth, as well as the growth and edification of others, Des specializes in helping people worldwide discover their purpose, find fulfillment and connect the dots in life when nothing makes sense.
As a United States Marine and a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Des spent more than 26 years in leadership in corporate America. In addition to several professional awards and accolades, he has been fortunate to serve for years with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit and the Board of Directors for The Croghan Foundation. Des has constantly ranked in the top 1% of members in his fraternity in fundraising efforts—no matter the endeavor. He has also personally donated thousands of dollars toward scholarships for deserving children on their way to college.
A servant leader at heart, Des faithfully served in various pastoral roles for more than 30 years in five different ministries. Today, he is the Director of Pastoral Care at Impact Church of Detroit. He strives diligently and daily to live Revelation 12:11 (KJV): And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Devoted husband to Nicole and father of three (Destiny, Joshua and Lauryn), Des and his wife have raised more than twenty-three children.
Through becoming foster parents before having children of their own, they allowed mothers with small children to live in their home for up to a year to save money.
At the core of their being, they genuinely believe it’s the community’s responsibility to care for the needy. So, they’re always the first to spring into action.
